Artist Statement
Painting and drawing for me is the way of thinking and observing the world around me. My inspiration relates from my own life, feelings, emotions, experiences, or sometimes my observations of lives of other people. My paintings are about transposing the material into immaterial by creating a new identity and vice versa.
I am fascinated by space and memory, either physical or imaginary, and by their virtual existence. My work as an artist is a continuous journey of learning, searching, and experimenting.
My work is the result of an inner journey and personal exploration. Through painting, I seek not to represent reality literally, but to express emotion, memory, and atmosphere in their purest form. Each subject becomes a starting point for intuition, allowing movement, light, and texture to guide the creative process. Inspired by travel memories, imagined places, and distant dreams, my paintings invite viewers to connect their own experiences and emotions with the stories suggested within the composition.
My artistic path has been shaped by continuous experimentation and the search for freedom of expression. Influenced by impressionism, tonalism, abstraction, and representational art, I combine traditional foundations with an evolving contemporary technique. Over time, my process has moved from palette knife work to the use of rollers and broader gestures, giving me greater spontaneity and creative freedom. I constantly challenge and refine my technique, believing that true emotional expression comes through both intuition and mastery.
My Story
Viola Artemani paints women portraits, compositions, interior scenes and still lives. In her paintings, there is a subtle reference to the artist life and experiences. Her compositions are structured, often with geometric background and always engaging. Viola’s art projects an atmosphere of mystery and tranquility. Her style and artistic signature are constantly evolving, stimulated by both technical and aesthetic research. Always aiming to create works qualified as visual poetry, she is not anchored in any style or subject.
"I prefer to work with acrylic, oil, oil pastel, India ink, pencil and pen. I place importance on composition, working thoroughly to elicit a sense of familiarity in my subject matters influenced by my culture, life and experience. Expressing myself artistically has been a cornerstone of my identity and how I’ve survived in the world for as long as I can remember.
My creative process is fueled by the subconscious. My brain creates, while my hand acts as a conduit, allowing the manifestation of that which exists beyond her conscious self."
